I have had this discussion on numerous occasions; trying to explain the use of action words. I don’t know what is so hard about the concept of quality ads using a few basic concepts. On line classified ads can be a tricky bird if not done correctly. With all of the information on the Internet today they will simply get lost in the clutter, and that is something that we just don’t need. Any reputable website will be indexed and your ad will be searchable within weeks of proper placement.
My question to you is where is your ad REALLY? Yes, I know far to well that it is on the classified site you put it on next to the other hundreds of ads, but what will make people read it over the others? It’s your eye popping title and great picture of course! Let me back up for a moment and check out your title, it looks like all the others so why should I read it? It’s time for a title rewrite. It should not only say what you are selling, but also why yours is better or different than the rest. Ok, now that that is fixed let’s see the photo. No wait you don’t have one. That is easy to fix, but lots of people seem to forget that a picture is worth a thousand words, or maybe a thousand dollars.
Now you have a great title and an eye pleasing photo, lets get to the meat of any ad, the content or body as it is so often called. The object of the body is to explain what you have in greater detail, causing the reader to get excited about what you have, ending with a call to action. The call to action is the most forgotten part of the body, and the most important. You may not think that a call to action is necessary. (It always is) Keep in mind that people like to know what they need to do next. Stop and think about it for a minute. Do you want people to call a phone number, send an email, click a link or just send it to someone else. You have to be clear in your call to action and make sure that they know when to do it. You know, ACT NOW or OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY. My personal favorite is LIMITED TIME OFFER ACT NOW, it sounds silly, but it will work.
Well there you have it, my slant on great classified ads with all the components that it takes, lets recap.
-
Well written eye catching title.
-
Well done photo
-
Ad body that causes excitement while explaining what you have in detail.
-
Explanation of what you want people to do.
-
Ending with a call to action.
Good luck and happy ad writing!

You can find lots of articles on Building Trust in Business or websites, but what about building trust in life? Well trust in life is often overlooked and I do mean the trust between one person for another. This kind of trust has to be earned with deeds, actions and words. I personally am one of thous people that will trust you until you prove that you can’t be trusted. Ya ok, so everyone makes a mistake from time to time but if you lie to me or mislead me I will NEVER forget it. This is a flaw on my part, but what are you going to do thats just the way it is!
Example: Half truth- I’m going to the store for some milk. Translated to I’m going to get some milk on the way back from my friend house where I will be staying for two hours.
Example: Stretching the truth- You will only receive one or two emails a month from our website. Translates to We are going to sell your email address to every spammer we can and then we will send you so much junk mail that you better close your mail account before we flood it.
Example: Vague Truth- I will do my best to get it done. Translates to I will try and if it happens to accidentally get done than it’s all the better.
I try to earn and keep the trust of the people around me with words and deeds but this is often overlooked by others, that I do know. The above examples are but a few of the things that we deal with every day, but think little about. In my opinion we, as human animals, should devote more time to building trust and less time thinking about what others think about us. Next time you are listing to a friend or coworker tell a story, just think about how much of it is really true and how that makes you feel like you have been lied to!
I will always do me best to only email you on occasion when it;s important!

Advertising is an art more than a science, I know I keep saying that but its true! One well written ad is worth its weight in gold no mater where it is. I have found some of the most interesting things in the oddest places and how did I find them? Well it was all because of a well written ad. Lets start with a few of the basics.
For now on lets think of each advertising attempt as its own little story and at the end of it you will want someone to do something for you, because you wrote the story and they liked it.
First, lets see the product, a picture IS really worth a thousand words, even if you have a service you will still need a picture. Don’t laugh it really is that important in this day of multimedia everything. Find something that expresses what you are doing even if it is just a piece of clip art.
Second, can you explain in a couple of sentences what it is? If it takes more than that the reader will lose interest and you just lost the sale.
Third, you need a call to action, yes it seems a little silly to have to tell someone that they should buy it now but it really does make a difference. Thats it in a nut shell! Your advertising campaign is missing just one thing, you to put it together in one cohesive little story!

STOP! Before you spend time and money writing a classified ad just take a moment to think about what you are doing and ask yourself a few basic questions.
1.. How will someone find YOUR ad?
2.. Who is your target audience?
3.. Where are you going to post it?
4.. Is there a market for the product? Silly question
5.. What are you really selling?
Step 1:

Let’s take a moment to address items 1 and 2 because, in my opinion, they are the most important. I know for a fact that most people don’t give them a thought. You post your ad on a classified ad website and you expect that every person that goes there will read your ad, right? NOT, the great thing about a good classified ad website is they are indexed by the search engines and they send people to your ad. OK, in some cases someone will stumble into your ad, but are they your target audience? You know, target audience are the people who buy the products not just look at them. Now that I have told you what I think lets get to, what I think, is the best way to address each item.
Item 1 and 2:
Just think for a moment what would you search for if you where looking for your product? Just for fun do a Google search for 1X6 VG Fir (that’s a grade of wood)
A wood worker ( target audience ) looking for high grade fir ( product ) would use this search phrase (find your ad) to find what he was looking for. The first ad is a link to Craig’s list the #1 classified ads website using 1×6 VG fir in its page heading, no surprise there. Look at #2 its a smaller classified website with a well written ad. Before you ask, yes I did write it for a member of FreeADad.com, the website that I work for. Ok, so the ad is kind of full of filler but I had about 5 minutes invested in it with out really knowing what to say, but I do know how to say it.
The key is in the key word placement, and that was done for the search engines the rest of the ad was done for the person reading the ad. Remember they have to find it first in order to read it. Now that you have a clue on how to write it let’s move on to #3. FYI - yes it’s just that simple!
Step 2:
Item #3 Where do I post my ad? Well that’s a loaded question! I think that there are 3 major factors to keep in mind when looking for an ad site.
1.. Cost for the amount of time it will run, and can it be flagged by the general public?
2.. Is the website big enough to be indexed by the search engines, not just abandoned by the webmaster or owner.
3.. Will they allow ALL types of outbound links? This is really important if you want to pitch a sales page or affiliate link.
Step 3:
Item #4 Is there a market for the product? Don’t be fooled. Just because you have a product, it doesn’t mean that there are people that want or need it. Do some research, any research it better than none.
Item #5 What are you really selling? No, I didn’t ad this one as a joke. I’m dead serious that you think about what you are really selling! Are you really selling a product or are just trying to get people to your website? Is your service really that great or are you just hoping to get a adsense clicks? If you don’t know what your goal is than others wont ether.
I will be writing more on this subject so stay tuned!
